Mothers Day!

As you all can see, on Sunday 14th March 2010, it is going to be Mothers Day!
In year 5, we have been making mothers day hearts, for our mothers.

We got a heart template, and we all cut it out. Then Mr Miller gave us some different coloured felt, then we traced the template on the felt.

Then we cut the felt out, then we traced it again on a different colour felt, and cut it out again, twice.

After, the teacher told us to have a little heart in the middle of the bigger heart, in a different colour.
When we done that, we got a needle and sew the little heart to the big heart, and we done the same with the other hearts.

Once we done all of that, we then after had to sew some sequins, and beads on them, on both sides.

We decorated both sides and it looked beautiful, then we had to do blanket stitch around the outside of the heart, then we left a little gap near the end, or anywhere, and stuffed cotton wool in it, and blanket stitched it again till it is done.

They look absolutely beautiful!

Thank you to all mothers in the whole world who look after us. Especially my mum Miryam I love you, from Juan Rosero, and I love you to Saddaf, from Zaynah Mahmood.

And don't forget Sunday, Mothers Day!

THE EASTER PLAY!

In year 5, we have been focusing on our play! The play is Cinderella by Roald Dahl (Revolting Rhymes). you might think you know this story, but you don't! It is by Roald Dahl so there is a little twist in the play. The play is on: 23rd of March 2010, doors open 6:30, play starts at 7:00. The

venue is Glade Primary School-main hall. DON'T BE LATE!!!

Competition Time!

This week in year 5, (well on Friday)we have been doing competition time.

We had to decorate a walk to school badge. And the teacher's(maybe)will choose the best one, we don't really know if the whole school are doing it, so HEADS UP!

We had to decorate it with the things we see on the way to school, or draw the things that no-one saw, but just what you saw.

We really actually enjoyed drawing, but unfortunately we have to finish them off, to a high standard. We have to colour them brightly, because the real badge's are bright and colourful.

We first had to trace it on our sketchbook's to make a design.

OK, well we went on a school trip to Latchett Church. It took 3 and half miles to get there, and 3 and half miles back, so that's altogether 7miles.

When we got to the Church, we met Neil Pool, and The Amazing Rob. Neil looked different, and so did The Amazing Rob.

There were little pod's over there, (little sections) about Jesus's story, and life and the way he taught. When we entered the Church, to me first it looked like a museum.

They told us to go to this man, and he gave us numbers, and afterwards he gave us PDA's.
Then, when we finished looking around, they told us to sit in this tent, and then played the video:life giver.

It was really sad when he died.

When our time was up, we went to the 'cafe' to eat and drink.
While we were in the 'cafe' we done a quiz, about what we learned.

Then we went to the toilets.

Then we were off, to go back to Glade Primary School.

Viking Jewellery.

This week in year 5 we have been making Viking Jewellery. Viking Jewellery is really posh.We have been focusing on the broaches. The broaches are pins with decorating on it.
We made two broaches that are going to be pined on the shoulders or maybe the front.
From the broaches, their are going to be beads or diamonds hanging, as a necklace.

We have been making the model for it, out of Model Magic. Model Magic is much, much,
much better than Clay or Plasticine.
When we finished the model, we placed it on the window sill, and waited for it to harden overnight.

Hopefully when it is hardened, we can paint it in: gold, bronze and copper. And then, we can put diamonds and beads on it to make it look lovely, and really pretty. If you wear the broaches, you'll look beautiful, and people will want to take it off you. But sadly they do not exist.

But you can take some from Glade year 5. Actually you cant only find these in 5m you can also find them in museum's also we've not only done the viking jewellery we are going to make viking long boat made out of WOOD!

Hope you enjoy looking at our Viking Jewellery,
thankyou.

Viking Jewellery

This week in year 5,we have been making Viking Jewellery. We made Viking Brooches for Viking clothes. Our class used Model Magic for the base and Add Videothe detailed bits on our Brooch. We let them dry near the window.Once they were dried,we painted them.We had three options of paint. They were Gold, Bronze and Copper. After the Brooches had been painted they looked fabulous, but we weren't finished. The detailed bits we made were painted in blue, red, green and black(acrylic paint). All of us made our own beads with different colours and then put them on strings. Finally we taped them on to the Brooches, after all the hard work we glitter glued them then we were finished.

China Week!(dragons).

This week in year 5, a big event has been happening, it is China Week!. We have been focusing on the Dragon.(roar!).
We have been in different groups to focus on Dragons.(to bad their not real). We have also made Hanfu (Chinese robes).
Maybe our teacher might hang them on the ceiling.
It will look very nice,(hopefully).
European Dragons are very EVIL, and Chinese Dragons are traditional, they are most likely respected as gods.(they are not gods, they are treated like that).
Some say that Dragons have the power to control all four elements (fire, water, earth, lightning) when Chinese people are caught using their image, other than the emperor, they will be put to death, (not European people, don't worry}, and Dragons make floods, explosions, earthquakes and terrible storms.
We had, a wonderful time enjoying all the activities.
Thank you,

This week in year five, we have been investigating sound waves, frequency, vibrations and pitch,
(not a football pitch!).
And also we got to do an experiment with all the equipment to do with vibrations. Like a Wind Tube, wind tube eg: when you swing it really fast it sounds high, and when you swing it slow it sounds low.
Weve also been learning about the Vikings long house man there long wonder why they call it long house.
Lets change the topic, anyway this week in science we have been making Sound Coat Hangers.
Well thats all folks we will see you next week, for another wonderful week....
